6 Energy Monitoring Products to Give You an Efficient Home

How can you make sure that your home is energy efficient so that you don’t waste money on your electric bill each month? French designer Mathieu Lehanneur has teamed up with energy company Schneider Electric to provide you with a simple 6-product system for an energy-efficient home.

The 6 products included in the Lehanneur/ Schneider line are:

1. Actuator.
2. In-Home Display.
3. Smart Plug.
4. Nano Controller.
5. Room Temperature Sensor.
6. MMS - Multimedia Messaging Service.

Each of these six products can be attached to various devices and appliances in the home to monitor energy use. For example, the smart plug attaches to an outlet to determine how much energy is being used by whatever item is plugged into that outlet. The in-home display shows how much energy is being used by a combination of appliances in the home such as the hot water furnace and the washing machine.

Together, these products can monitor total energy use throughout the home, providing the user with a succinct picture of exactly what their energy bill money is going to power each month. This information makes it much simpler for families to make smart decisions about saving money on electricity on a day-to-day basis in order to lower their total costs. In addition, it alerts users to any unusually high energy activity so that they know immediately if there is an appliance malfunction or sudden energy leak in the home.

The products were created as prototypes for display at the St. Etienne Design Biennal 2010. Although you may not end up purchasing this specific line of products, checking it out can help you with your own home energy choices. That’s because there are many similar products on the market today that you could purchase to monitor energy use and prevent energy waste in the home. Choosing to invest in these products can be a wise decision as it can lower your energy bill over time.
